LOOKOUT RUN

mileages are based from profile map and not actual odometer - should be considered highly subjectionable
This approximately ten mile loop features 3.5 miles of unlined broken county roads that lead up hard for a trail retreat back. A figure 8 track starting at the intersection of rt35 and Stave Branch at Fraziers Bottom, WV. Within the first mile on Stave Branch, immediately past the first little bridge, on the left you will pass the trail exit. Continue on pavement and you will enter into the new 4 lane construction area. Lots of big equipment activity and flagger people to deal with. Don't miss the ever changing left turn that is about half way up what is now big gravel. Cross the future 4 lane then top out on the first bump on the profile. Fun sketchy steep breather rolls ahead, then you will be too busy staring at the looming headwall to notice that the KT crosses the road at the base. You will be at this point again via trail. At the top of the wall of pain, hang a left on cr13/4. Figure 20~30 minutes for the road climb. Immediately past a blind turn, trail blazes will appear - cut back right for KT. A White Yellow White reading will point the right direction. Top out on the profile at Lookout Point a tell yourself "it's only four miles of trail". Tell yourself over and over as needed during the hour and a half or so to tour this leg of trail. Natural trail features will keep you on your toes. Mandatory hike-a-bikes and trail navigation to deal with. Soggy bottoms turn to high grass in the growing season. Payoffs pay off nicely with some fine bench cuts, boo-coo switchbacks as well some mighty fast and open air areas. If you like this sort of thing and your around the area, you should defiantly check it out and let us know what you think, your comment will be added to this page.

happy trail

Promising new access point could start "down" on particularly challenging terrain before hitting the pave' climb and would put the finish on a fast downward note.
