WV Ranked last by League of American Bicyclists

See the report online at http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bicyclefriendlyamerica/

West Virginia

State Rank: 50 out of 50.

Reasons for Ranking: Though ranked last, West Virginia does a great job constructing and promoting mountain biking facilities. However, with no dedicated state funding sources for bicycling related projects and programs, no state-wide bike route network and discriminatory mandatory sidepath laws, West Virginia sits far behind leading states.

Please help us catalog accomplishments in your area

Bill Robinson, Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator for the WVDOH is collecting information about bicycling projects in West Virginia so that he can better represent the true state of biking in the next League Survey, due March 2009.

As coordinator of the Mid-Ohio Valley Bicycle council, I have agreed to help get the word out and coordinate gathering information and to help organize a meeting so that bike advocates from all over could all sit down together with a document that in some way represents the current state of cycling in West Virginia.

I have posted every question on the League survey on a blog.  You can get to it by going here:  http://westvirginiacyclingadvocates.blogspot.com/

There are a lot of questions!  57 of them!  The last survey sent by the League of American Bicyclists contained the following topic areas. I have used them  for organizing the information on the blog.

Legislation
Policies and Programs
Infrastructure
Education and Encouragement
Evaluation and Planning
Enforcement
